Hi, I'm Ash, fellow senior. After a successful career, I postponed retirement to start Empathy, a brand dedicated to helping seniors and solo agers thrive. Ten Minute AI is my way of doing just that — showing you how to use AI with confidence, one simple 10-minute guide at a time.

What Should I Do If ChatGPT Gives Me the Wrong Answer?
It happens to everyone, including me. ChatGPT is very good at sounding confident even when it's wrong, so the fix isn't to distrust it completely — it's to check anything important before you act on it, the same way you'd double-check a tip from a well-meaning neighbor.
If something sounds off, just say so. Type "that doesn't sound right, can you check again?" and it will usually try a different angle or admit it isn't sure.

Why It Happens
ChatGPT builds its answers by predicting likely words based on patterns it learned, not by looking things up like a search engine. That means it can occasionally state something incorrect in a calm, matter-of-fact tone, especially about specific facts like dates, prices, or current events.
This is normal and not a sign you did anything wrong. Even people who use it every day run into this from time to time.
How to Catch It
Trust your instincts. If an answer feels too specific, too convenient, or contradicts something you already know to be true, ask a follow-up question like, "Are you sure? How confident are you in that?" A good habit is to verify anything involving money, medical details, or legal matters with a real person or a trusted website before relying on it.
Getting a Better Answer
Try rephrasing your question with more detail. Instead of "what's the best bank for seniors," try "what should I look for in a bank account with no monthly fees for someone on a fixed income." More specific questions almost always get more useful answers.
And remember, you can always just start over. Typing "let's start this over, I want to ask this a different way" costs you nothing and often gets you exactly what you needed.
